About Our Staff

Who Are Our Staff?

CBB staff members are individuals who truly enjoy working with children. They are willing and able to bring out the full potential within each camper, allowing them to be their authentic selves, while having a great time. They are positive, full of spirit, and have a desire to serve as leaders and role models to younger kids, as well as their peers. They are hard-working team players committed to always doing what is in the best interest of the campers.

CBB staff members are caring, dynamic people who love to play and have tons of fun, yet never lose sight of safety and responsible leadership. Our staff is made up of college students, educators, coaches, athletes, artists, and performers who come from diverse backgrounds yet share an appreciation for the incredible impact of the overnight camp experience. They are individuals who value and respect differences in children and adults, and are dedicated to ensuring that each camper and staff member is a valued member of the CBB family. They are outstanding people, ready and willing to create the summer of a lifetime for themselves and all of our campers and staff. They are the heart of CBB!

Staff Requirements

Being a counselor, specialist, or other staff member at overnight camp is a responsibility not to be taken lightly. You will be in charge of the health and well-being of children, both emotionally and physically. Your behaviour and engagement with campers could have an impact on them, potentially for the rest of their life.

If you think you are fit for this meaningful, fulfilling, and fun experience, we’d love to learn more about you! Please take a look through the following requirements to understand more about what the position involves:

  1. CBB staff work very closely with many other people, especially children, and must be able to constantly manage and juggle the many different emotions, thoughts, and opinions that exist.
  2. CBB staff work extremely long hours. Because most of our staff members live with campers, they actually are working or are on-call 24 hours a day for two months straight. Staff get one day off per week, except the first and last week. We have a shuttle service to and from Ottawa for days off.
  3. Most CBB staff members commit to be at camp for the entire camp season. We prefer this, since it can be disruptive to our campers to have staff members leaving early for other commitments. However, we do make exceptions if staff need to stay for half a summer only.
  4. Prior to camp, there is a mandatory staff training at our pre-camp that all staff members must attend. Pre-camp dates vary by position.
  5. We have a drug-free, alcohol-free and non-smoking/vaping work environment with a zero-tolerance policy throughout the entire campgrounds. If you want to work at CBB, it is important that this fits your lifestyle.
